Abstract:
A broad-band strip-based monopole antenna design for applications in the 800-2500 MHz range is presented. Broad-band impedance matching is achieved by appropriately adjusting the feed point of the antenna and by placing a conductive element next to the monopole. Enhanced bandwidth can be obtained by further adding a conducting patch beneath the monopole and/or by increasing the size of the ground plane. The characteristics of the antenna remain stable when placed in the vicinity of objects such as the hand or a laptop. A fairly good radiation pattern is obtained over the whole frequency band.
