Abstract:
We present design and realization of an antenna array based on cavity backed microstrip patch antenna with an operating relative bandwidth exceeding 20% at a return loss level of RL>15dB. The antenna array of 4 elements does not show any compromise in bandwidth and exhibits side-lobe levels better than 15 dB with a gain of around 12 dBi. This fact emphasizes that the excitation structure is not particularly sensitive to small variation in the geometry of excitation. Excellent agreement has been achieved between measurements and predictions for the single element design. Both predicted and measured return loss and antenna patterns show good agreement, respectively.
