Abstract:
This paper describes the design and development of a miniaturized, compact, lightweight four element microstrip patch array for interference cancellation in a GPS receiver. The GPS signal being very weak is susceptible to both intentional and non-intentional interferences. Mitigation of such RF interferences using miniaturized antenna array for antenna beamforming and null steering is the main aim of this paper. The main application for these antenna arrays are for mitigation of interference in a GPS receiver inside a military airborne platforms where the space available for installing antennas is a major constraint. The entire antenna array assembly designed and fabricated in this paper including the metal ground plane on which it is mounted is 5”. GPS antenna array uses high dielectric material to reduce the size of the antenna elements and reduce the separation between the elements. In this paper, the test results of the miniaturized antenna array technology are described. The simulated and measured antenna parameters included in this paper are reflection coefficient, and mutual coupling data, radiation pattern, axial ratio and its comparison with data from anechoic chamber measurement, and also antenna array gain.
