Abstract:
Noncontacting waveguide shorts of practically any construction suffer from in-band spurious resonances occurring when the shorting plunger is not exactly centered. A new type of spurious-free sliding short is suggested, incorporating a microwave choke with longitudinal slots. The slots disturb the higher-order TE modes, responsible for the effect, such that their resonance frequencies are moved out of band of interest for a wide variety of perturbed plunger positions.
