Abstract:
Over the past few years, the ever-increasing demand of various wireless systems (for applications ranging from electronic warfare to satellite, radar and mobile communications) has encouraged continuous efforts in the research of high-performance and compact UWB radiating elements (with large bandwidth, stable patterns, etc…) The growing computing power coupled with the high-accuracy of EM CAD has allowed the analysis of significant subarray aperture. In this paper, the design of a UWB VIVALDI antenna element has been optimized in the array configuration. The numerical results obtained from this simulation tool were verified by measurement activities, carried out in near field/far field systems. On this ground, the present work is aimed at describing the agreement between simulation results and the measurement activities performed in Elettronica S.p.A (ELT). In particular the performance, in terms of accuracy and time, of the SATIMO StarLab system has been verified.
