Abstract:
The successful deployment of ultra wideband (UWB) impulse radio systems requires the collaboration on many fields. Especially the interface between receiver and antenna needs to be more and more integrated. This paper is concerned with the evaluation of the antenna properties from a system point of view that provides the necessary analysis tools in a stright forward manner. It considers a simple but efficient receiver model and applies the conclusions to two UWB antenna concepts: the aperture coupled bowtie antenna (ACB) and the diamond shaped slot antenna. The obtained results are discussed in order to show feasible test methods for the optimization of the directional UWB impulse radiation characteristics.
