Abstract:
The objective of the present work is to combine EBG (electromagnetic bandgap) technology and dielectric resonator antennas to have a phased array that does not exhibit scan blindness. The basic idea is to use an EBG material made of dielectric rods that also behave as dielectric resonator antennas. We present here the main idea for the design of the periodic cell, the dispersion diagrams to show that there are not surface modes, the active reflection coefficient and the matching with a probe- feed for an infinite array. Then, we analyze a linear phased array configuration made of 8 elements in terms of radiation patterns to show a good scanning; furthermore at a chosen frequency the active reflection coefficient for an infinite array indicates that there is no scanblindness effect.
