Design and Analysis of A Broadband Concentric Split Ring Square Reflectarray Element

A series of phase variation and phase range is analysed for a newly concept of a reflectarray antenna element namely concentric split ring square. The performance is to be compared with the two previously designed element namely single square and concentric solid ring square. CST Microtripes is used to perform the behavior of these elements. Bandwidth broadening is realized through the using of RF-35 as the substrate with the dielectric constant of 3.54 and the thickness is 1.524. This element successfully performs dual frequency operation (13.44 GHz and 18.36 GHz). The current distribution of the element is modified to achieve the less steep phase variation which leads to the improvement in the bandwidth where the concept of split is introduced into the element. The physical interpretation of the element is also discussed in this paper.
