The “New Technology Demonstrator” is a project lead by Australia’s CSIRO to demonstrate wideband, wide field-of-view radioastronomy using reflector antennas and focal-plane arrays. This work is part of the international “Square Kilometre Array” telescope project, to develop a next-generation radiotelescope. This paper briefly describes the New Technology Demonstrator project, then describes one approach to developing a wideband focal-plane array with high sensitivity and contiguous field-of-view.
