Engineers involved with planar arrays often estimate the performance of the array from single elements, using array synthesis methods to determine the number of elements required, their spacing and the relative excitations. Although this approach provides a good starting point, it does not include a number of practical effects, such as mutual coupling, or the influence of the feed network – and indeed, the actual layout of the feed network.

The CST University Publication Award is an annual grant to university institutes and researchers for work related to 3D EM field simulation applications. Realistic environments containing multiple aggressors (transmitters) and multiple victims (receivers) pose significant engineering challenges with respect to cosite interference. In order to predict cosite interference accurately, a large number of contributing factors have to be taken into account. In particular, the RF performance characteristics of each transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) as well as the wideband coupling/isolation between all antennas must be considered in order to identify and eliminate undesired interference between systems.
