As the Internet of Things establishes itself, more and more connected devices are finding their way into the modern home. The "connections" are of course wireless and antennas are the key enabling technology which provides that wireless connectivity. This webinar will discuss the case of a smart projector, exploring how antennas can be designed given the constraints posed by aesthetics, competition for space and technological requirements.

Some interesting issues will be investigated: is the effort required for a custom multiple antenna design (for MIMO operation) worth the benefits over an off-the-shelf PCB integrated antenna module? How can good concept-level antenna designs early in the product development cycle be useful? How can the antenna engineer quickly explore and evaluate new antenna concepts for high frequency 5G standard support?

This webinar will talk about the simulation techniques and tools that allow new antenna concepts for Internet of Things devices to be developed and tested quickly at a very early design stage, leading to a better connected device and a reduced overall device design time.

Presenter

Dr. Marc Rütschlin grew up and studied in Stellenbosch, South Africa. After completing his PhD in Electronic Engineering, with a focus on dielectric material characterization, he did post-doctoral studies at NIST in Boulder, Colorado, and at the University of Karlsruhe in Germany, with a focus on electromagnetic wave propagation in buildings and small antenna design respectively. Marc joined CST - Computer Simulation Technology in January 2007, and currently works as global market development manager for microwave and RF applications from CST's UK office in Nottingham.
