The Transient Solver of CST MICROWAVE STUDIO® (CST MWS) is a general purpose 3D EM simulator. Real time domain simulation is useful for studying the field propagating through a component or along the traces of a PCB, and can be used in a huge range of EM applications. Time Domain Reflectrometry (TDR) comes naturally with such an solver, but also Signal Integrity (SI) applications benefit from the capability to use arbitrarily shaped time signals.

Besides the specific capabilities in time domain, the transient solver also delivers broadband frequency domain results like S-parameters. These simulations can be performed with an arbitrarily fine frequency resolution without extra computational cost, thus avoid missing single resonances inside the spectrum. Field results for many frequencies (for example 100 farfield samples) can be derived from one single simulation run.
CST MWS can be easily distinguished from other time domain tools.
