The log-periodic dipole array (LPDA) is a very popular broadband antenna of simple construction, low cost and light weight. A properly designed LPDA has essentially frequency independent, properties in its design band. Multi-octave bandwidths can be achieved.
Printed LPDA antennas are particularly useful for low power microwave applications, due to their relatively cheap production cost. The effect of the dielectric substrate on boom characteristic impedance and dipole resonant length should be taken into account to comply with stringent specifications, [Pantoja et al.], [Van Wyk].
